The middle
of a new school term means the beginning to a new year for the UFashion blog. My goal for this blog is to occupy a space within U of T’s student culture that
encourages individuality, creativity and self-expression. Despite our chosen
medium being fashion, we believe creative expression can and should transcend
beyond just what you wear everyday. My hope in posting and sharing with U of
T’s student population is not simply to encourage you to dress well or have a
strong grasp of your colour palette, but to consider fashion as a creative
outlet and a dialogue - one that should be contributed to by students.
Although the blog looks and
acts the same currently, I am excited to show you what we have in store in the
coming weeks and months. As some of you may have seen on our Facebook page, we have recruited new members to
our team. Their names are Galit, Ryan and Imogene and they each bring something
new and unique to our group. Although every member is special in his or her own
way, I want to focus on Galit specifically. She has rightfully earned the
Blogging internship, and I am excited for what she brings to the blog. Our new
schedule ensures we’ll be posting at least once a week throughout the school
year, and once a month she will be publishing a post. I personally can’t wait
for her posts because she has unique and intriguing opinions that deserve to be
shared (and because it gives me a week off).
Another addition to the blog is the updated team bios and illustrations on the “The Team” page. These are the first step in revamping our website. My dear friend Izzy Mink graciously drew them all for us. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
I am really looking forward to sharing what we have planned for the blog this year. The discussions we want to start having and the ones we want to start contributing to are equal parts fashionable and academic. UFashion is a community for students who love fashion as an interest, but also one that explores fashion as a creative outlet, a social presence and a global industry. It is my hope that our readers, whether they are returning or new, will be encouraged by our take on fashion from the lens of a student, and choose to advocate the same ideas and opinions throughout our campus and community.
